About The School
NVSD, also known as Nrithyaveda School of Dance, was founded in 2009. At NVSD, we are committed to educating students in the sacred art form of Bharatanatyam, the classical dance style of South India. We believe that through self-discipline, dedication, and practice of this art form, the students will find inner joy and a higher expression of their true self. Students are encouraged to enjoy and continue this journey of learning.
About The Teacher
Guru Smt. Gowrilakshmi is the teacher and choreographer of NVSD. As the founder and director of the NVSD, she has cultivated the love of Bharatanatyam amongst her students and audiences for nearly 15 years. Through NVSD, she attempts to bring to life her vision of unifying an artist's skill and devotion to achieve an integrated development of the individual, the community, and the world.
Smt. Gowrilakshmi started her dance journey when she was 7 under the tutelage of her
aunt Smt. Revathi Rajamani. Later, she started learning from Guru Smt. Prema Karunanidhi in Madurai. After completing her learning, Smt. Gowrilakshmi assisted her Guru in Sree Meenakshi Natyalaya and many stage shows.
Smt. Gowrilakshmi was awarded the title Yuva Kala Bharati in 2004. Additionally, she worked as a dance instructor at TVSHSS Madurai and Vivekananda Vidyalaya Chennai. She also learned margams and attended varnam workshops under Kalaimamani Madurai R Muralidharan. Currently, she is pursuing advanced nattuvangam training under Dr.Panruti Suresh.
